The hard months are June through September. A garage refrigerator in Ladson or a second freezer in a Goose Creek carport sits in 95-degree air and runs its compressor without rest; the condenser fan slows, the coils load with dust and pet hair, and the box gives up in the middle of a holiday week. What a warm or noisy refrigerator usually means
Warm fridge, freezer still cold
Cold is being made but not moved. The evaporator fan has stopped, the damper between the compartments is stuck, or frost has sealed the coil because the defrost heater or thermostat failed. We pull the rear freezer panel, meter the fan and heater, and clear the ice before the new part goes in.
Both sides warm, compressor clicking
A click every few minutes with no hum afterward is the start relay or overload trying and failing to launch the compressor. We meter the relay and the compressor windings. A bad relay is a quick van-stock fix. Windings that read open or shorted mean a compressor conversation, told to you plainly with the number.
Frost building in the freezer
Heavy frost on the back wall means the defrost cycle has stopped running. The heater, the defrost thermostat or the control that times them has failed, and the fresh-food side is next. We meter each part in the circuit and replace the one that is open. A leaking door gasket can imitate this; we check it too.
Water on the kitchen floor
A puddle in front of the box is usually a frozen defrost drain that overflows the pan, or a cracked water line to the dispenser. A puddle behind it is the inlet valve or the fill tube. We pull the box, trace the water to its source, thaw or replace what is needed, and check the floor underneath.
Runs all the time, never gets cold enough
The condenser coil underneath is packed with dust, the condenser fan has slowed, or the box is low on refrigerant from a leak. We clean the coil, meter the fan, and read temperatures at the coil and the vents. A sealed-system problem is explained plainly so you can weigh the repair against the age of the box.
Dead after a storm or an outage
A surge during a summer thunderstorm or a hurricane outage often takes the main control board or the inverter board with it. Lights may work while the compressor stays silent. We meter the board outputs and the inverter signal, and carry boards for the common Samsung, LG, Whirlpool and GE models.

The meter settles the question on each fan, heater, thermostat and relay. On inverter models the board signal is checked before the compressor is judged. Same-day windows are held for exactly this, Monday to Saturday, and Park Circle, Hanahan, Daniel Island and downtown addresses are closest to O’Hear Ave. Move food to a cooler with ice, keep the doors shut, and leave the unit plugged in unless it is tripping the breaker.
Do you work on garage refrigerators and second freezers?
Yes, and summer is when they fail. A garage in Summerville or Johns Island reaches temperatures the box was never rated for, the compressor runs without a break, and the start relay or condenser fan quits. Is a compressor worth replacing?
